The title Agnus Dei (‘The Lamb of God’) relates to the invocation that begins with these words as forming a set part of the Roman Catholic Mass. Dolzanelli’s project alludes to the metaphor of ritual sacrifice and more specifically to mankind’s cruel use and abuse of the animal kingdom with whom we cohabit the planet. A series of his photoworks of images of young girls on lightboxes are juxtaposed with the historic sacred and profane paintings paintings in the Palazzo Dona’s collection. Their sense of nakedness, vulnerability and innocence express Dolzanelli’s wider preoccupation with the themes of religious and social tension and humanity's relationship with a despoiled and wounded nature.
