Bruce Odland and Sam Auinger, (O+A Projects) - Great Court Harmonization - proposal for 2003/4
The British Museum's Great Court, aside from its architectural splendour, produces extraordinary complex sound waves which can prove disorientating for the visitor. The principles of harmonic tuning to alter perception of public space have been demonstrated by Bruce Odland and Sam Auinger sound installations in numerous major international public spaces. This research and development project is a collaboration between O+A and the environmental monitoring unit at the Bartlett School of Architecture. O+A propose to discuss the acoustics with the architects of the Great Court, make a series of tests in the space, with a view to creating an ambient sound installation.
